The idea of meeting someone with whom there have been problems is often a difficult one and may create feelings such as anger, fear or frustration. And it is common and understandable for people to doubt the benefits that might come from it.
Where there is a willingness to try it, though, real progress can be made. The investment of two hours can have a real impact – in the short, medium and long term – on peoples’ experience living next to one another.
Mediation is voluntary.
When we talk to you about our service, there will be three parts to the conversation:
- We’ll find out about the problems you have, how they are impacting on you, how they started and why it’s important you resolve them.
- We’ll talk to you about the mediation process and how it might help, given your circumstances.
- We’ll hear about any other options available to you for resolving, discuss with you the pros and cons of each and the best way forward given your circumstances.
